Storefront & Business Signs in Rockland County, New York and the Tri-State Area

Building signs, monument signs, plaza directories and real estate signs: customized for your business and installed by our own crew.

Your sign does a lot of work. It tells people driving past that you exist, what you do and where to turn in. On a busy road in Rockland County you have a second or two to get that across. At Marv'les Signs in Monsey, every sign is customized for your business, and we do all our own installations, so the crew that puts up your sign works for us.

Business signs we provide

Our tagline is "All Signs Customized by Marv'les Marv," and we mean it. We don't sell signs off a shelf. Our portfolio covers just about every kind of exterior business sign:

  • Storefront and building signs: the main identification sign over your door or across your facade, sized to your frontage and your landlord's sign band.
  • Monument and ground signs: low, freestanding signs for office buildings, medical practices, schools, houses of worship and residential communities. See Monument Signs.
  • Post & panel signs: a clean, affordable freestanding option for lawns and parking-lot entrances.
  • Plaza and directory signs: multi-tenant signs that list every business in a shopping center or office park. When tenants change, the panels can be updated.
  • Real estate, construction and leasing signs: "For Rent," "Coming Soon" and contractor job-site signs.
  • Screen-printed signs for runs of identical signs, and temporary sale signs for promotions.

Need a tall sign out at the road? See Pylon Signs. Want raised, three-dimensional letters on the building itself? See Dimensional Lettering.

How to plan a sign that actually works

1. Size it for the distance

The most common mistake is lettering that's too small for the distance it will be read from. A widely used rule of thumb in the sign industry is about one inch of letter height for every 10 feet of viewing distance for easy reading. If drivers need to spot you from 150 feet away, you're looking at letters around 15 inches tall. Speed matters too, because faster traffic means less time to read.

2. Say less

Your business name, what you do (if the name doesn't say it), and maybe a phone number or website. That's usually it. Every extra line makes the important words smaller. Save the details for your window, your website or a secondary sign.

3. Use strong contrast

Dark letters on a light background, or light on dark, will always beat two mid-tone colors. Your brand colors can still lead. Sometimes it just takes an outline or a background panel to make them pop.

4. Check the rules before you order

Many shopping centers have sign criteria in the lease covering size, colors, illumination and mounting. Towns and villages also have their own sign codes, and many require a sign permit. Ask your landlord for the criteria and check with your local building department early. If you're not sure where to start, give us a call and we'll talk through what your project is likely to need.

5. Think about the whole site

A freestanding sign at the road, a building sign at the door and lettering on the glass all work together. If you're opening a new location, plan them at the same time so they share a consistent look.

Materials and options

The right construction depends on where the sign goes, how long it needs to last and your budget. Common choices for business signs include:

  • Flat sign panels (aluminum, composite or PVC) with vinyl or painted graphics. Clean, durable and cost-effective.
  • Dimensional elements such as raised or cut-out letters and logos that add depth and shadow.
  • Freestanding structures such as posts, monument bases and pylon frames.
  • Illumination, built into cabinets or individual letters, for businesses that are open after dark.

We'll recommend options based on your location and goals, not a one-size-fits-all package.

Common questions

Do you install the signs you make?

Yes. We do all our own installations, so your sign is installed by our own crew.

I need something up quickly while my permanent sign is being made. What are my options?

A temporary banner is a common solution for grand openings and new locations. See Banners & Large Format, and mention your opening date when you call.

What do you need from me to quote a business sign?

A photo of the building or location, rough measurements of the sign area, your logo if you have one, any landlord sign criteria, and your deadline.
